Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 19, 2026
Hi, I’m Jennifer Roberts, the traveler (and writer, photographer and occasional campervan driver) behind Expert Traveler at expertraveler.com. Your privacy matters to me. This page explains, in plain language, what information this site collects, why, who it’s shared with, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, just email me at hello@expertraveler.com.
Who is responsible for your information
Expert Traveler is run by Jennifer Roberts, based in the United States. I’m the “data controller” for the personal information described here. You can reach me at hello@expertraveler.com.
Information I collect
- Email sign-ups. If you subscribe to updates, I collect your email address (and your name, if you choose to give it) so I can send you new posts and travel tips. Sign-ups are handled by Hostinger Reach, Hostinger’s email marketing tool.
- Comments. If you leave a comment, WordPress collects the name, email address and website you enter, the comment itself, your IP address and your browser’s user agent (this helps catch spam). Your email address is never shown publicly. If you tick the box to save your details, a cookie remembers your name, email and website for next time.
- Emails you send me. If you email me, I’ll have your email address and whatever you choose to share, and I’ll use it only to reply to you.
- Technical information. Like almost every website, the servers that host this site automatically log basic technical details such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you visit and the date and time of your visit. These logs help keep the site secure and running smoothly.
- Affiliate link clicks. When you click an affiliate link or use a booking map on this site, the partner company may record that click and any booking or purchase you make (more on this below).
I don’t knowingly collect sensitive information, and I never sell your personal information.
How I use your information
- To run, secure and improve the website
- To send you my newsletter or updates, if you signed up (you can unsubscribe any time using the link in every email)
- To publish and moderate comments
- To answer your messages
- To earn affiliate commissions that help keep Expert Traveler going
- To meet legal obligations
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. This site and its partners use them for a few reasons:
- Essential cookies that WordPress uses to make the site work, including the optional comment cookie mentioned above.
- Affiliate tracking cookies set by partner companies when you click one of my links, so they can credit me if you book or buy. How long these last depends on the partner. It can be anywhere from 24 hours to about a year.
- Third-party content such as embedded booking maps, which may set their own cookies when they load.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, although partners may not be able to credit me for a booking.
Third-party services this site uses
- Hostinger: web hosting. Hostinger’s servers store the site’s data and logs.
- Hostinger Reach: email sign-ups and newsletters. It loads a script from Hostinger’s servers.
- WordPress, the Kadence theme and Elementor: the software that builds and displays this site.
- Google Fonts: some fonts load from Google’s servers, so Google receives your IP address when a page loads.
- Gravatar: if you comment, WordPress may check Gravatar (run by Automattic) for a profile picture linked to your email address.
- Social sharing buttons: if you choose to share a post to Facebook, Pinterest, X or another network, that network’s own privacy policy applies.
Affiliate partners
Expert Traveler earns money through affiliate links. If you click one and then book or buy, the partner pays me a small commission at no extra cost to you. To do this, partners use cookies or tracking codes in the link to record your click and any purchase. These are the programs I work with or plan to work with:
- Stay22: hotel and accommodation links and booking maps. A Stay22 script on this site may automatically turn accommodation links into affiliate links that send you to sites such as Booking.com or Expedia.
- Motorhome Republic: campervan and motorhome rentals
- GetYourGuide and Viator: tours and activities
- DiscoverCars: car rentals
- SafetyWing: travel insurance
- Airalo: travel eSIMs
- Amazon Associates: travel and camping gear
When you leave this site for a partner’s site, that company’s own privacy policy and cookie policy apply. I don’t control what they collect, so please take a look at their policies.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
You can read more in my Affiliate Disclosure.
How long I keep information
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete your details
- Comments: for as long as the comment stays on the site
- Emails: as long as needed to help you, then deleted when no longer needed
- Server logs: for the period set by my hosting provider
Your privacy rights
Wherever you live, you can email me at hello@expertraveler.com to:
- Ask what personal information I have about you and get a copy
- Correct anything that’s wrong
- Ask me to delete your information
- Unsubscribe from emails (or just click “unsubscribe” in any email)
- Object to or limit how I use your information
If you’re in the EU, EEA, UK or Switzerland (GDPR): I rely on your consent (for newsletters and optional cookies), my legitimate interests (running and securing the site, moderating comments, earning affiliate income) and legal obligations. You can withdraw consent at any time, ask for your data in a portable format, and complain to your local data protection authority. Because I’m based in the US and my service providers may process data in other countries, your information may be transferred outside your country. Where that happens, those providers use legal safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
If you’re in California or another US state with a privacy law (CCPA/CPRA and similar): you have the right to know, access, correct and delete your personal information, and not to be treated differently for using these rights. I do not sell your personal information. Affiliate tracking may count as “sharing” for advertising purposes under some state laws. If you’d like to opt out, email me, block cookies in your browser, or turn on a Global Privacy Control signal.
I’ll reply to requests within 30 days (sooner whenever I can), and I may need to confirm it’s really you before acting on a request.
Children
Expert Traveler is written for adults. I don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU/UK). If you think a child has sent me information, email me and I’ll delete it.
Keeping information safe
I use reputable hosting, keep the site’s software updated and use secure (HTTPS) connections. No website is 100% secure, though, so please don’t send sensitive information by email.
Changes to this policy
As the blog grows, I may add new tools or partners and update this page. I’ll change the effective date at the top whenever I do.
